The latest version of RMS Server may be downloaded from our website http://www.railcartracking.com; click on the Support > Downloads link. You may also find earlier versions of RMS Server there as well.
FYI: The RMS Server installer does two things. 1) Installs Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express (instance name: SQLEXPRESS) 2) Writes a database backup file to the folder chosen for installation (RMSDBSQLDemo.bak). This backup file is the RMS database file that contains sample data for demonstration and evaluation purposes. If the RMS Client is installed on the same computer, it will give you an option to restore this backup file.
1. Click on the link that says RMS Server (version X.XX.XX).
NOTE: Before you go any further, be sure to close all open applications except your web browser that displays the RMS download page.
2. The File Download window will display, click Run. It will take a a minute or two for the file to completely download to a temporary folder on your computer. When the download is complete, the installation will begin.
You may get a warning that the publisher could not be verified; click Run
3. You will prompted for a password to continue. If this is a trial, you must go to www.railcartracking.com/contact.htm and fill out a form. After you submit the form, you will be provided the password in an email message that will be sent immediately to your email inbox. If you are an existing customer and do not know the password, please contact Customer Support 314-571-4028 or support@railcartracking.com.
4. You will be asked whether you wish to install the RMS Server, click Yes.
5. When prompted, enter a password for the RMS Server. This a password that you create for yourself as the system administrator. It is the system administrator password for the Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005 which is the main component of the RMS Server. The password is case sensitive. You must remember the password in order to login to the RMS application or to perform system administrator activities in Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Be sure to enter a strong password, otherwise the installation will fail. A strong password has:
- Both upper case and lower case letters
- At least one number
- At least one special character (!, #, @, $, %)
6. Any prerequisite programs will be installed now. Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005 will be installed if they do not already exist on the computer.
Note: You may be prompted to restart the computer (typically only if MS Windows Installer 3.1 is installed). Restart the computer and setup will resume automatically.
7. Accept the license.
8. The READ ME window will display next. This window provides any special instructions related to the installation of RMS. Review the notes to be sure that you know any special instructions to follow for your particular installation. Click Next to continue.
9. Choose the folder, default is recommended
10. Choose the Start Menu group. Normally you don't need to change the Start Menu group entry, just use the one that is there. Also, it is recommended that you select the option to create shortcuts for all users of this computer.
Setup is now ready to copy the remaining files to complete the process. Click Next to continue.
