During this process, the new railcar sightings (CLMs) are assimilated into the database and into new and/or existing cycles.
There are several ways to import CLMs into RMS. The first is to import CLMs directly from Steelroads. Steelroads is a Web-based software package offered by all of the major North American railroads for no charge. It enables you to connect to the AAR (Association of American Railroads) Train II database and retrieve all the CLMs for your railcars. The next way is to import CLMs from a text file provided to you from some other source; these CLMs must be in Format D, H or the proprietary Kleinschmidt NetREDI CSV fomat. We also have built a direct interface to Kleinschmidt, which is Value Added Network (VAN) - they will assess a per character charge for this data, which usually ends up being around $.02 to $.04 per CLM record. If you are having trouble deciding which source to use, give us a call and we'll give you some suggestions.
