Getting started with RMS is fairly simple

Getting started with RMS is simple.  You are required to:

1. Arrange data feeds

   A. Shipping Instructions (optional)

   B. Car Location Messages (CLM)

2. Install the software

See the Installation Instructions help topic.

3. Enter railcar fleet information

Note: This is not required if you use railcars borrowed only for the loaded shipment and then returned immediately to the railcar owner (often referred to as "temporaries", "free runners" or "system cars"). In this case, you will need to make sure that shipping instructions are entered or imported into RMS, so that it knows what railcar to track.

We recommend that you establish a source of CLM data first, before you do anything else because this can quite often take a little time to set up - usually two to eight weeks.  Its good to get this ball rolling, so if it does take a little time for the data provider to get you set up, you can be installing RMS and entering your railcar fleet information.
